An Organization for Young People in Lansing, Michigan

For men and women between the ages of 21 and 40, the Lansing Jaycees offer leadership training through community development.  By organizing a variety of programs and projects for the benefit of Lansing, our members learn leadership and management skills. The Lansing Jaycees is also a very social organization with lots of opportunities to meet new people.

If you live in the Lansing area, the Lansing Jaycees is an excellent way to meet new people, have fun, improve your personal and professional skills, and work to improve Greater Lansing.

Joining Our Chapter

Membership is open to anyone between the ages of 21 and 40. Dues are $65.00 per year. New members are expected to attend an orientation session within the first 60 days of membership. (If you are unable to attend the scheduled orientations, we can make accomodations).

Getting Involved

Getting involved in a new organization can be difficult- finding time in your schedule, remembering names of members, developing new friendships, learning about the group, etc. We recognize this in Jaycees, and work to provide options for new members to get involved. Above all the best tip for initial involvement is this: take it at your own pace, don't burn out!

Here are some options for new members who want to get involved:

  • Orientation Sessions - Held on a frequent basis, this is a great opportunity for new members. By attending an orientation, you can learn more about Jaycees, ask questions you may have, and have the opportunity to meet other new members like yourself. They are also an opportunity for prospective members to learn more and make an educated decision on whether to join or not.
  • Degrees of Jaycees - Degrees is a step-by-step program to guide you through your Jaycee involvement. Each successive degree includes different tasks that provide different learning experiences. By completing the various requirements for each degree (there are 10 degrees), members have a well-rounded Jaycee experience, learn valuable skills and promote chapter objectives. For more information on degrees, click here.
  • JumpStart Projects - Periodically, the Lansing Jaycees offer JumpStart projects. With a JumpStart project, a group of 5-10 new members are assembled to come up with a simple project, work together as a project committee, plan and execute the project to completion. Through doing this, the members who participate get to know one another very well, learn about project planning, meet the rest of the members while promoting the project in the chapter, and have some fun!
  • Project Committees - In the absence of a JumpStart project, a member can get the same benefits by joining an existing or new project committee.
  • Short-on-Time Plan - If you don't have a flexible schedule and can't easily serve on a committee, just start attending meetings, socials, and projects at your convenience. Although this might not be as effective as participating on a committee, over time you will get to know people and learn more about the chapter. Just keep persisting and you will be successful!
