Lansing Jaycees

This weekend nine members of the Lansing Jaycees' Polar Plunge team will be jumping into frigid water to raise money for Special Olympics of Michigan.

To date, the team (comprised of Shawn Brueshaber of the Kalamazoo Jaycees, Angela Clock, Lori Castelein, Sam Keeney, Michael Leeds, Jason Larsen, Carrie May, Laura de la Rambelje and Sheryl Soczek) has raised $1,515 dollars and are currently in 7th place out of 67 teams.

You can also cheer the team on by showing up at Eagle Eye Golf Course, located at 15500 Chandler Road, on Sunday, Feb. 26. The plunging begins at 1 p.m. and attendees are encouraged to car pool.

Don't worry, if you cannot make it out to the event, there will be plenty of photographic evidence of the plunging.

 

Members of the Lansing Jaycees are currently selling "Enjoy the City" coupon books to raise funds for the Chapter.

Each book is chock-full of fantastic coupons that can help you save while dining out or enjoying entertainment in the Lansing area. The books sell for $20, with $8 of each book benefitting the Lansing Jaycees.

There are also coupons for several local golf courses, discounts for concession stand purchases at the movie, car rentals, etc.

As an incentive, each member who sells five books gets to keep one free! Additionally, Management Vice President Dan Harris is willing to take a pie in the face at the April General Membership Meeting from the top three book-sellers if 125 books are sold this year!

Have you always wanted to learn how to make pasta? 

Then we have the perfect event for you! Members of the Lansing Jaycees will learn how to make traditional pasta noodles using both hand-cranked and electric pasta making machines.

We will learn how to make both spaghetti and angel hair, and depending on time, possibly a few more options.

"Basic Pasta Making" is scheduled for Sunday, March 11 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Check out the calendar for location details.

Casual CASDL Speech and Debate Judging

The Capitol Area Speech and Debate League is looking for judges for their tournament Saturday, February 25 at MacoDnald Middle School. Speech events include: Oral Interpritation, Original Poetry and Prose, and Duo Improv. The debate topics is: Schools should adopt a substantial policy on Organic Foods in regard either to food service or instruction. If you are interested, there is a background check form that must be completed before judging. This can be done as late as the day of the tournament. Also, judges do not have to be there the entire time, but if they plan on leaving early or arriving late, this should be communicated beforehand. If you want to judge the first round, you should arrive no later that 8:45, but if you want instruction on how to judge, please arrive earlier.

Our General Membership meetings occur the first Tuesday of each month (except July) at Trippers in Frandor starting at 7 PM with a social hour starting at 6 PM. The meeting is open to all members and anyone interested in learning about the Lansing Jaycees. I hope to see you there!

Easter Egg Hunt - committee meeting

This will be the third committee meeting for one of our annual signature events, the Easter Egg Hunt on the Capitol lawn. It's not too late to help out! Through this committee, we'll plan and execute the stuffing of over 10,000 eggs for the big "hunt" with approximately a thousand people! Trust me, it's an amazing site, so help out and be a part of it! We will meet at 6PM on the Capitol steps so we can map out where everything will go. After that we will move to Geno's Pizza, 208 South Washington Square, Lansing.

Basic Pasta Making

Core committee meeting for the Monster Mayhem haunted house meeting for 2012! The purpose of this meeting is to finalize the leadership team and start to plan. Everyone is welcome. My enthusiasm for the haunted house has been clear. I do love it. I love haunted houses in general, but more than that I love the feeling of a group of people coming together and doing something great. Monster Mayhem can't be a one-man show. The Lansing Jaycees Easter Egg Hunt on the Capitol Lawn, one of our signature events, will be held Saturday, April 7, 2012. Please join us in making this project a success! Please indicate in your response, what you would be interested in helping with from the following options: Setup/Tear Down, Mascot Escorts, Crafts, Games, Handing Out Flyers, Raffle, Volunteer Coordination, or "Does Not Matter". Volunteers are requested at 8:00AM. The public start time is 10:00AM, with the actual hunt promptly at 11:00AM.
