Lansing Jaycees

This past weekend eight members of the Lansing Jaycees' Polar Plunge team jumped into 32 degree water at Eagle Eye Golf course to raise money for Special Olympics of Michigan.

After extraordinary fund raising, the team (Lori Castelein, Angela Clock, Laura de la Rambelje, Sam Keeney, Jason Larsen, Michael P. Leeds, Carrie May, Sheryl Soczek and Shawn Brueshaber of the Kalamazoo Jaycees) finished in sixth place and raised $2,205 for a great cause: Special Olympics of Michigan.

In total, plungers on 74 different teams raised a total of $50,469.

Members of the team dressed up in various costumes, including a Blues Brother, super heroes, a Greek donning a toga, a Greek solider and Sheryl sported a Lansing Jaycees T-shirt.

Do you like saving money? Love the Lansing Jaycees? Well, then you definitely want to purchase a "Enjoy the City" coupon book to help the Chapter.

Books are $20 each and the Lansing Jaycees get to keep $8 from every book sold. As an incentive, each member who sells five books gets to keep one free!

Also, if the Chapter sells 125 books this year, Management Vice President Dan Harris will take a pie in the face by the top three sellers at the April GMM!

I'm confident we can see Dan get pied in the face, I mean, sell 125 books raising roughly $1,000 for the Lansing Jaycees.

 

Every four years we have the gift of an extra day on February 29, otherwise know as day we mark "Leap Year."

To celebrate this additional 24 hours, members of the Lansing Jaycees will travel to Joe's Gizzard City in Potterville for a happy hour that can only happen every four years.

Joe's, made famous by the Foodnetwork's "Diners, Drive-Ins and Drives," menu is chocked full of deep-friend delicacies such as: chicken gizzards, burgers and Oreos. Yes, they deep fry Oreos!

The happy hour will also feature a Jeopardy style game complete with prizes for participants.

Progressive Dinner

Progressive Dinner hosted by members of the 2012 Lansing Jaycees Board of Directors. The dinner will have three stops, with "Around the World" themed dishes. Please join us from 4 to 9 p.m.

General Membership Meeting

Our General Membership meetings occur the first Tuesday of each month (except July) at Trippers in Frandor starting at 7 PM with a social hour starting at 6 PM. The meeting is open to all members and anyone interested in learning about the Lansing Jaycees. I hope to see you there!

Easter Egg Hunt - committee meeting

This will be the third committee meeting for one of our annual signature events, the Easter Egg Hunt on the Capitol lawn. It's not too late to help out! Through this committee, we'll plan and execute the stuffing of over 10,000 eggs for the big "hunt" with approximately a thousand people! Trust me, it's an amazing site, so help out and be a part of it! We will meet at 6PM on the Capitol steps so we can map out where everything will go. After that we will move to Geno's Pizza, 208 South Washington Square, Lansing.

Basic Pasta Making

We will be learning how to make traditional pasta noodles. Using both, the hand cranked and electric pasta making machines. Noodle styles will include both spaghetti and angle hair and depending on time a few more options.

March Magic Hoopfest - help set-up

Help set-up for the MSU March Magic Hoopfest, which is an interactive basketball playground for children of all ages, held in conjunction with the MHSAA Boys Basketball Semi Finals and Finals on March 22–24. Monster Mayhem - Haunted House core committee meeting

Core committee meeting for the Monster Mayhem haunted house meeting for 2012! The purpose of this meeting is to finalize the leadership team and start to plan. Everyone is welcome. My enthusiasm for the haunted house has been clear. I do love it. I love haunted houses in general, but more than that I love the feeling of a group of people coming together and doing something great. Monster Mayhem can't be a one-man show. Join me to be a part of something great!

The Lansing Jaycees Easter Egg Hunt on the Capitol Lawn, one of our signature events, will be held Saturday, April 7, 2012. Please join us in making this project a success! Please indicate in your response, what you would be interested in helping with from the following options: Setup/Tear Down, Mascot Escorts, Crafts, Games, Handing Out Flyers, Raffle, Volunteer Coordination, or "Does Not Matter". Volunteers are requested at 8:00AM. The public start time is 10:00AM, with the actual hunt promptly at 11:00AM.
