Olga's!

This coming Saturday (June 2) you have an opportunity to help out the Chapter while dining on delicious food from Olga's in Frandor.

Bring in this coupon and a portion of your bill will come to the chapter. The amount donated to the chapter increases as our total does, so please come hungry!

The Jaycees will be meeting at Olga's for both lunch and dinner. For lunch, we'll be there from noon to 2 p.m.; and for dinner, we'll be there from 5 to 7 p.m.

Please feel free to go at anytime you wish, and as many times during the day you possibly can. (Remember - they have smoothies!)

Can't make it yourself? Please help spread the word by sharing the flyer with people you know. You gotta eat anyway, right? Why not help the Lansing Jaycees? Afterall, we're committed to helping out our community.

Creating a World With More Birthdays

Once again the Lansing Jaycees will have a Lansing Relay for Life team. So far, the team has raised $1,346. That means we're only $654 from reaching our goal of raising $2,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Plus, President Lauren Leeds and a few other brave souls have agreed to cut off the majority of their hair to have it made into wigs for cancer patients.

The Lansing Relay for Life will take place at Lansing Catholic High School from 2 p.m. on Friday, June 8 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 9. We're in need of walkers to take shifts throughout the 24 hour period. Please contact chair Jill Blust if you can take a shift.

Want to help but cannot make it to Relay? We will be collecting empty pop bottles at the June General Membership Meeting on Tuesday, June 5 at Tripper's in Frandor. Bring any empty returnable bottles you have, starting at 6 p.m. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and run until at least 8 p.m., so feel free to bring your bottles and all that spare "change" will go towards the Chapter's Relay team.

Parisian Pancakes (Crêpes)

Have you ever had a crêpe before? If not, think of a really thin pancake stuffed full of your choice of savory or sweet fillings.

Join the Lansing Jaycees as we expand our culinary horizons by eating crêpes at American Crêpes in East Lansing. Feel free to check out their menu in advance of our "Get Your Food On" event, as the restaurant offers many mouth-watering options.

In addition to sampling the delicious crêpes offered at American Crêpes, we will also learn about the history of this unique food.

We'll be dining at this great new eatery at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 11. If 7:30 p.m. feels a little late for dinner, no worries there are plenty of dessert crêpes you can sample.

The restaurant only has seating for 15-16 people, so please RSVP.

What's Debate All About Anyway?

Have you ever wanted to participate in or watch a debate? Here's your chance!

On Saturday, June 16, members of the Lansing Jaycees will be participating in a friendly debate with members of the Redford Jaycees.

The topic for debate is "Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its transportation infrastructure investment in the United States." We will flip a coin to determine sides for the debate. Each debate is expected to last roughly 1 hour and will be adjudicated by an experienced three-judge panel.

Michelle Kesling of Redford has 16 years of experience in debate and has graciously offered to do a presentation on how to debate before the debate itself. Topics to be covered include: the best questions to ask your opponents, how to flip an opponent's position to one in your favor. Attending the presentation on how to debate will count towards the WorldLink Communications Michigan Jaycee Conflict Resolution Training Certificate.

Tentative schedule is as follows:
10 a.m. Presentation on how to debate.
Noon Break for lunch. Pizza will be available for a donation of $5 per person, although participants can feel free to explore downtown.
12:30 p.m. Continue presentation on how to debate.
1 p.m. First debate begins.
2 p.m. Judges' decision.
2:15 p.m. Second debate begins (time and interest permitting).
3:15 p.m. Judges' decision.

The event will be held on the third floor of the Capital Area District Library's downtown location.
