Texas Hold'em | Texas Hold 'em
What is Texas Hold'em you ask ... and, how exactly does working a shift help the Chapter? Don't worry, you don't have to know how to play poker to help out.
Tripper's Poker Room is managed by Aces Gaming Supply and is run as a charitable gaming venture. This means they need various nonprofits to supply manpower to count chips and cash. It's that simple. According to Management Vice President Dan Harris, Texas Hold'em continues to be a relatively easy, profitable fundraiser for the Lansing Jaycees. In fact, on average last year, we received more than $27 per person/per shift -- after expenses. In 2011, the Chapter saw a profit of more than $8,300 throughout the three events we helped staff. This year we have been offered and have booked four events -- the first one taking place next Monday, July 23 through Wednesday, July 25. We still need two shifts covered (11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24 and Wednesday, July 25), so please sign up if you can. Can't work these dates, but would like to help at one of our future events, we'd love that! Feel free to contact President Lauren Leeds or Dan Harris if you can volunteer. Remember, every dollar raised by the Chapter helps fund the fantastic programming we do for our members and our community. Thanks! Poetry in the City
The Lansing Jaycees are proud to once again be one of the sponsors of Poetry in City -- organized by noneother than our very own Rina Risper! Other sponsors include The New Citizen Press and Nu Poet Collective.
The 7th Annual Poetry in the City is this Thursday, July 19 and takes place on the steps of the Capitol building in downtown Lansing. We will also be volunteering at this event, so if you are interested in helping, please contact Angela Fossi. If you plan to volunteer, please arrive by at least 6:45 p.m. Beginning at 7 p.m. and wrapping up at 9 p.m., the event is free to the public and all poets are welcome including Hip-Hop, traditional, slam and performace. This year's featured poet is Rosemarie Wilson (AKA One Single Rose). Additionally, Shaton Andrews and Kelly Kilpatrick-Phelps will perform. Attendees are advised to bring a lawn chair or a blanket. Hope to see you there! Pretty Jewelry = Fighting Cancer
United States Junior Chamber National Vice President Dawn Hetzel is looking for support, as she prepares and fundraises for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's "Team in Training" event. Between now and Thursday, July 19 you can order jewelry from Silpada to help fight cancer.
You're invited to help Dawn fight cancer with a Silpada Designs Catalog Party! Dawn's Silpada consultant (also named Dawn!) is donating 100 percent of the profits from orders. Simply shop online from the comfort of your home to experience the beauty of Silpada Designs Jewelry. Whether you are shopping for yourself, or looking for that special gift, you're sure to find something beautiful. Additionally, your online purchases will count toward Dawn's fundraising goal! It just takes one look to see how Silpada Jewelry makes it easy to look stylish ... and that is something to celebrate! Thank You, together we will find a cure!
Hostess: Dawn Hetzel President Ford Museum Trip
Due to a few last minute scheduling conflicts, the planned trip to the President Gerald R. Ford Museum was postponed.
If you were interested in attending this event, and did not RSVP as a "yes" or a "maybe" because you were unable to attend -- or if you're simply interested in joining us on the rescheduled visit, please click this link: http://www.doodle.com/vvzfg5ix2vr75dfs -- where you can vote for a date. Gerald R. Ford is the only person from Michigan to serve our country as president and visiting he presidential museum in Grand Rapids honoring him is a great way to learn more about this great man and fellow Jaycee. We hope you will participate in the poll and cosinder joining us for this event. |
