2012 Fall Assembly - Romulus, MI | Great Lakes Folk Fest!
Once again this year the Lansing Jaycees are running the beer tent at the Great Lakes Folk Festival and we need your help!
We will have a selection of great beers from the Great Lakes Region on tap, and we need volunteers to get the beer to the thirsty masses. There are three basic positions we need filled for each shift, pourers, door workers, and ticket sellers. Please follow the link below to sign up. Most shifts are about three hours long, plus a brief training session that will take place 15 minutes prior to the start of each shift. So, please remember to show up 15 minutes before your shift starts. If you have any questions, feel free to contact either Charlie Root or Angela Fossi - via email at croot80@gmail.com or kitispart@gmail.com respectively.

The Lansing Triathlon and Duathlon need volunteers to help ensure their event goes off without a hitch this coming weekend. They have asked the Lansing Jaycees to help by volunteering and in return they will pay the Chapter for the volunteers we supply.
The Lansing Triathlon and Duathlon is being held this coming Sunday, Aug. 5th. There are two shifts for volunteers: 5:40 a.m. to noon or 6:40 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or until all teardown is complete). Support crew positions include: registration, body marking, passing out water and electrolyte replacement drink on the course, athlete direction throughout the courses, crowd control, food tent, finish line assistance, teardown and packing of equipment and cleanup. (You may be assigned to any and all of these during your shift). We need a minimum of 10 volunteers to receive $250 for the chapter. If we reach 16-20 volunteers, we will receive $350. Please consider signing up and indicate your shift on the evite - let's show this group our support! Contact Angela Clock via email at: fallingstar924@hotmail.com if you can spare a few hours to support the Chapter. Gearing Up for Haunted House
It's really starting to look like the stars are aligning for the Lansing Jaycees to conduct a haunted house in 2012! We'll need all hands on deck for this event.
This event is a HUGE understaking and we will need countless volunteers (both Jaycees and non-Jaycees) leading up to and throughout the duration of the project. Committee meetings to help plan for the event begin Wednesday, Aug. 1 with the "Monster Mayhem Design & Construction Committee Meeting." Keep your eyes peeled for other upcoming committee opportunities -- Operations/Back-Of-House, Volunteers & Staffing, Treasurer/Front-Of-House, and PR & Sponsorships. Want to help, but not sure which committee to sign up for? Feel free to contact Eric Richmond, who is chairing this year's haunted house, via email at: edr@thelastbyte.com. We hope you're all as excited about bringing "Monster Mayhem" back in 2012 as Eric is! Government in Action
In the United States of America you have the relatively unique privilege of being able to watch your government in action.
Have you ever wondered what goes on in the Michigan Senate? Join members of the Lansing Jaycees on Wednesday, Aug. 15 as we fill the "Peanut Gallery" to observe our state lawmakers at work. We will meet in front of the Capitol building at 11:45 a.m. (session that day is scheduled to start at noon) and head up to watch the action. If you've never seen the state goverment at work, this is the perfect opportunity to take your lunch hour to see what happens in your state Capitol. Contact Michael P. Leeds via email at: mp_leeds@yahoo.com if you are interested in attending, or if you have any questions about the event. President Ford Museum - Take 2
Lauren Leeds Due to a few scheduling conflicts, the previously planned trip to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum was postponed. I am now happy to report that the trip has been rescheduled for Labor Day, which is Monday, Sept. 3 this year. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the only president to hail from the Great Lakes State. Admission to the museum is only $7 for adults, $5 for college students with ID, $3 for youth ages 6-18, and free for children under the age of 5. Free parking is available. To help offset the costs of attending this event, we will be carpooling. If you are interested in attending, please contact me via email at: lleeds823@gmail.com. Texas Hold 'em
The Chapter will be conducting its second Texas Hold'em fundraiser at the end of August.
The money we raise in for the Chapter is put to good use in the individual development, membership, and community events you know and love. Please use the following link to complete your sign-up: Volunteer Spot Texas Hold'em is a relatively easy event to work. In fact, all you need to be able to do is handle chips, money, and count. Trippers offers free non-alcoholic drinks and 10 percent off food during your shift. If you have never done this before, no problem! We will match you up a friendly and experienced volunteer to work with you. Last year the Lansing Jaycees received more than $27 per person per hour worked from Texas Hold'em. This year we hope to raise more than $11,000 combined from our four Texas Hold'em events. This money is directly used in nearly all projects the Lansing Jaycees participate in, from the Easter Egg Hunt and convention reimbursements to a significant portion of the softball team's expenses. Dan Harris is also seeking a chair for this event. Chapter fundraisers show employers you have the skills not only to manage a project and handle the challenges, but to raise money as well. Please contact Dan via email at: dan@dnharris.com if you'd like to chair the event, or volunteer.
